Excursions
Toyama Prefecture is home to one of the world's most remarkable natural landscapes, where the 3,000-meter peaks of the Northern Japan Alps and the Sea of Japan are separated by only about 50 kilometers.
This unique environment, nourished by abundant fresh water, has sustained local communities, industries, and culture for centuries, shaping Toyama's distinctive history and scenery.
To help you discover the many facets of Toyama, we have prepared three unique excursion courses. Explore a UNESCO World Heritage Site and experience traditional Japanese culture, discover the history and craftsmanship shaped by maritime trade, or visit the spectacular Kurobe Gorge, one of Japan's most breathtaking natural valleys.
Each excursion offers a different perspective on Toyama's nature, culture, and industry, allowing you to experience the region from a unique perspective. We invite you to immerse yourself in Toyama's stunning landscapes, rich traditions, and the everyday life of its people.

Course Information
- We have prepared three different courses. Please view the details of each course below.- Photos are for illustrative purposes only.
- If we are unable to accommodate your dietary requirements with the provided menu, you may need to purchase a separate meal at your own expense.
- All dates and times are shown in Japan Standard Time (JST).
- The participation fee includes round-trip transportation by bus, lunch, and admission fees.
- A minimum of 35 participants is required for the excursion to operate. If the minimum number is not met, the excursion will be canceled, and all fees will be fully refunded.
- An English-speaking tour guide will accompany the group throughout the excursion.
1. Gokayama: UNESCO World Heritage Site & River Cruise
Up to 40 participants (First-come, first-served basis)
This excursion introduces the natural and cultural highlights of the Shogawa River basin, including the World Heritage site of Gokayama. The clear, abundant water flowing from the mountains has supported local life for centuries. It also enabled the transport of high-quality timber downstream, contributing to the development of woodcraft traditions such as Inami carving. Eventually, these waters flow into Toyama Bay, shaping a unique culture and landscape across the region. On this tour, you will experience the rich connection between nature and culture created by this water system.
2. Takaoka: Traditional Metal Casting & Kaiwomaru Park
Up to 40 participants (First-come, first-served basis)
A hands-on experience of traditional culture shaped by the sea. Toyama once flourished as a port of call for the Kitamaebune trading ships. Through maritime trade, a wide range of cultures and techniques were introduced, supporting the region’s development. This tour takes you to Takaoka and Shinminato, towns with deep ties to the sea. At Kaiwomaru Park, you will explore the sailing vessel Kaiwomaru, once used as a training ship for merchant marine students, and enjoy the sweeping views of Toyama Bay, a member of the “Most Beautiful Bays in the World” club. In Takaoka, you will also discover its long-standing metal casting tradition and take part in a hands-on experience of this time-honored craft.
3. Unazuki: Kurobe Gorge Railway & Autumn Colors
Up to 45 participants (First-come, first-served basis)
*Participants under 20 years of age are not permitted to consume any alcoholic beverages.
This excursion takes you aboard the Kurobe Gorge Railway through one of Japan’s most spectacular canyons, the Kurobe Gorge. Carved by the Kurobe River, which flows 86 kilometers from the Northern Alps with an elevation difference of 3,000 meters, the gorge is known for its dramatic V-shaped cliffs and dynamic landscape shaped by powerful currents and abundant water. Designated as part of Chubu Sangaku National Park in 1934, the area is also famous for its beautiful seasonal scenery. In autumn, the mountainsides are covered in vibrant colors, allowing passengers to enjoy stunning fall foliage views from the train windows. The pure waters of the Kurobe River have also been selected as one of Japan’s “100 Exquisite and Well-Conserved Waters,” highlighting the rich natural environment that defines the Kurobe region.
Alcohol Policy
*Alcoholic beverages will not be served to anyone under the age of 20.*Soft drinks will be provided for participants under the age of 20.
*Alcoholic beverages are available only to those who wish to drink.
*Parents and guardians are kindly requested to help prevent minors from consuming alcohol.
*For ease of identification, participants under the age of 20 will be asked to wear a designated name card during the event.

Payments are accepted by credit card only and must be made in Japanese yen via the designated registration system.

Cancellation requests must be submitted to the Secretariat by October 12, 2026 (JST).Please note that cancellations cannot be accepted after this date.
