All workshops are free of charge, and we hope they will enrich your stay in Toyama.

【November 9】 Kimono Dressing Experience

Enjoy the experience of wearing a kimono, one of Japan's most iconic traditional garments.
Choose your favorite kimono from a variety of colors and patterns, and our professional staff will help you get dressed. Feel free to take photos to capture a special memory of your time in Japan.
【November 10】 Bookmark Making with Fish Leather

Toyama Prefecture has long flourished through its close relationship with the Sea of Japan and its abundant marine resources. Driven by a desire to transform fish skins into a valuable resource rather than waste, Mr. Noguchi spent more than three years researching and refining his techniques. His efforts resulted in the development of fish leather—a durable, supple material with greatly reduced fish odor.
In this workshop, participants will create their own original bookmark using fish leather developed by Mr. Noguchi of tototo.
Join us for a hands-on experience that celebrates Toyama’s deep connection to the sea while showcasing environmentally conscious, sustainable craftsmanship.

【November 11】 Kumiko Woodcraft Workshop

Kumiko is a traditional Japanese woodworking technique that has been passed down since the Asuka period (592–710). By precisely assembling delicate wooden pieces without the use of nails, artisans create intricate geometric patterns of remarkable beauty.
In this workshop, participants will experience this centuries-old craft using Kumiko components produced by Tanihata, a specialized Kumiko manufacturer in Toyama Prefecture founded in 1959. Guided through the assembly process, you will gain an appreciation for Japanese craftsmanship and traditional culture while creating your own Kumiko piece to take home as a unique souvenir.
【November 12】 Origami Workshop

Origami is a traditional Japanese art of paper folding that creates beautiful shapes and designs from a single sheet of paper. In this workshop, participants can enjoy making simple origami creations while experiencing a part of Japanese culture firsthand. A variety of colorful paper will be provided, making the activity enjoyable for all ages and skill levels.

Pin Badge Making with Traditional Ecchu Washi Paper

Create your own original pin button using Ecchu Washi, a traditional Japanese paper produced in Toyama Prefecture. Ecchu Washi has been produced for centuries using the region's rich natural environment and pure water. In this workshop, participants will create their own original pin badge using Ecchu Washi paper. The activity takes approximately 5–10 minutes and is easy for children to enjoy as well. Participants can take their finished badge home as a souvenir. Pin buttons with the UMC logo are also available.
