AIM and SCOPE

The cutting edge of ceramic research is rapidly expanding and advancing, far beyond the traditional scope of ceramics. The primary driving forces behind such advanced research are society’s needs, such as the realization of a safe and secure society, as well as researchers’ desire to “create dream materials.” The main materials used in ceramics are oxides, which are the principal constituents of the earth’s crust. They are abundant, environmentally benign, and possess many unique properties not found in conventional semiconductors or organic materials. We believe that many new properties remain untapped, as exemplified by the discovery of high-Tc superconductors.

The Materials and Structures Laboratory (MSL) of Tokyo Institute of Technology (reorganized as Institute of Science Tokyo on October 1, 2024) is a center of excellence in ceramics research in Japan and has made major contributions to pioneering new frontiers in ceramic research. Ceramic research has contributed to true nanotechnology through the appropriate fusion of neighboring disciplines. Thus, we launched this international conference as a new forum to stimulate interaction among different disciplines through discussions of high-level research achievements.

The first STAC conference was held in 2006 in Shonan, Japan, and was organized by MSL. Since then, MSL, the Department of Ceramics Science at Tokyo Institute of Technology, and the National Institute for Materials Science have organized the STAC conference series. This is the sixteenth conference and will be accompanied by special sessions of “The 6th International Symposium on Design & Engineering by Joint Inverse Innovation for Materials Architecture (DEJI2MA-6)”. The program will feature approximately 30 invited talks, contributed oral and poster presentations, and a banquet. Anyone interested in the conference topics is welcome to participate.
