Optional Tours - Cycling Tour

The IVS GM2024 Local Organizing Committee organizes a cycling tour before the day of the General Meeting for icebreaking and for a quick recovery from jet lag. In this event, you can tour around the foot of Mt. Tsukuba using a rental bicycle. The roads are rich in nature and relatively flat. We are looking forward to your participation.

Please fill out the application form and send it to cycle-ivsgm2024#googlegroups.com (replace # with @) by January 31 2024. Since LOC will accept the application in first-come first-served basis, the application will be closed as soon as the number of participants reaches the capacity.

Overview of the Tour

Capacity     20 people.
                   *We will accept the application by first-come first-served basis.
                   *Thus, we will close application when the number of participants reach the capacity.

Course

Round trip from Rental location near Tsuchiura Station to the foot of Mt. Tsukuba is about 40 km (visit this link to see the route map).
The plan is to start from point(1) and go around point (5) in the map. Then return to point (1) by 16:00 JST. The distance is about 40 km.

16:00 Arriving at the starting point (rental location) to return bicycle
16:20 Riding on a Bus for Tsukuba Bus Center
16:50 Arriving at the Tsukuba Bus Center and ending the tour

Rental Bicycle

We will use the rental cycle program operated by Ibaraki Prefecture Tsukuba Kasumigaura Ring-Ring Road official service. LOC will reserve the rental bicycles as a group for this tour in advance based on your application form (See 'Application'). You need not reserve rental cycles by yourself.

Bicycles

Please select appropriate size suitable for your body height. The 'Junior Cross bike' is only for a person with 135-150cm height.

Note

  • A helmet is included in each rental bicycle.
  • In case your selected bicycle type is sold out, we may contact you ti ask for alternative choice.
  • Cycle-Insurance [ Liability compensation (*) and injury compensation (**)] is included as TS-mark insurance [pdf (Japanese leaflet)] in the rental bicycle contract. However, its application coverage is limited (death or heavy injury), additional insurance is subject of your own.

    (*) Compensation to the third party, who has damages of death, injury, or severe disability caused by the passenger on the board.
    (**) Compensation to a person riding a bicycle, who is hospitalized, dies, or suffers severe residual disability due to a traffic accident within 180 days from the date of the accident.

    • Lunch

  • Lunch boxes (Bento) will be prepared for lunch.
         Please order 'A: Beef Rib Bento' (1,300 JPY) or 'B: Beef Rib Rice Bowl' (900 JPY) in the application form. 
  • A bottle of Green Tea is included in the price.
  • Lunch for vegetarian, or vegan will not be prepared by LOC, sorry. Please prepare by yourself in that case.

    How to apply

  • Please fill out the application form and send it to cycle-ivsgm2024#googlegroups.com (replace # with @)
         by January 31 2024.
         Since LOC will accept the application in first-come first-served basis, the application will be closed as soon as the
         number of participants reaches the capacity.
  • LOC will reply each application to inform whether your application has been accepted within the capacity or not.
         If you receive e-mail reply of acceptance, please make payment as informed in the e-mail.
  • If you have not received any reply even one week after submission,
         please contact us, or LOC (gsi-ivsgm2024#gxb.mlit.go.jp (replace # with @) ).
  • In case your selected bicycle type was sold out, we will contact you to ask for alternative choice.

    • Payment

    The fee for rental bicycle and lunch should be paid in advance with Paypal after we inform you of the finalized fee.

    Cancel policy

  • Cancelation by End of Feb. 2024: Cancelation is free.
         We will refund your payment, except for amount of the money transfer fee of the PayPal.
  • After March 1st 2023: Cancelation is free for the rental bicycle. However, expense for lunch will not be refunded.
         Please note that amount of the money transfer fee of the PayPal will be reduced from the refund.

    • What to bring for the cycling tour

  • Please prepare water/drink for cycling by yourself.
  • Average air temperature in March at Tsukuba is 12 degrees Celsius.
         Please check weather news and prepare warm clothes/windbreaker just in case.
  • Small backpack may be useful, but not mandatory.
