About Tsukuba
Tsukuba is located approximately 50 km northeast of Tokyo, with excellent accessibility from Narita Airport and the central area of Tokyo. The city is surrounded by rich nature and is also known as "Tsukuba Science City" since many research and development institutions in Japan are concentrated in the area. The Tsukuba International Congress Center, the venue of the conference, is within walking distance from the Tsukuba Center Bus Terminal and the TX Tsukuba Station. There are hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. in the surrounding area. The weather in March is mostly sunny with little rainfall and chilly, especially in the morning and evening. The typical March temperature is a maximum of 12°C (54°F) and a minimum of 0°C (32°F).

Access to Tsukuba
By Bus
Airport buses go directly to Tsukuba Center Bus Terminal (hereinafter called “Tsukuba Center”) from Narita and Haneda airport. They are most convenient way to get to Tsukuba. Please check the timetables below since it is not so frequently operated.
From Narita Airport
Buy a ticket at the ticketing counter at 1F in Terminal 1, 2 or 3 at the airport. Get on the bus at the bus stop No. 8, 10, or 11 in Terminal 1, 2 or 3, respectively. You can see floor maps and more details at

Note: There are six buses a day. You can take the bus for Tsukuba without a booking. For the way back to airport, you need a booking. You can book a return ticket at Tsukuba Center during your stay in Tsukuba, or online.

From Haneda Airport
Head to bus stop No. 12, 13, or 9 in Terminal 1, 2 or 3, respectively. Buy a ticket at ticketing counters near the bus stop before you get on the bus. See more information at

Note: There are only two buses a day from Nov 2023, and it could be delayed due to traffic congestion in Tokyo area.

For the way back to Haneda Airport, you don’t need to buy a ticket but pay by cash on the bus.
By Train
There are various routes to get to Tsukuba Station by train. Although you need to change trains at least twice from Narita/Haneda Airport, it is quite frequent and punctual. You need to buy a ticket at each transfer station.
