Excursions

We have prepared three exciting excursion courses exclusively for SCES 2026 participants.
We hope you enjoy exploring Toyama and experiencing its rich local culture!

Course Information

Date: Friday, October 2

Fee: JPY 15,000 (tax included)

Minimum Participants: 30 per course

Notes:
- If the number of participants does not reach the minimum requirement of 30, the tour will be canceled. In such cases, all fees will be fully refunded.
- The participation fee includes round-trip transportation, lunch, and admission fees.
- If you have any dietary restrictions or food allergies, please indicate them in the system when you register. If we are unable to accommodate your dietary requirements with the provided menu, you may need to purchase a separate meal at your own expense.
- An English-speaking tour guide will accompany the group throughout the excursion.
- All dates and times are shown in Japan Standard Time (JST).

1. Iwase Course *Cancelled

Due to insufficient participation, this course has been cancelled. Registration for this course is no longer available.

Time:	1:30 p.m.–5:55 p.m.
Drop-off Point:	Toyama Station/Toyama International Conference Center

Visit Iwase, a historic port town that once flourished as a port of call for Kitamaebune merchant ships. Explore the Former Baba Family Residence, offering a glimpse into the lifestyle of prosperous merchants, and stroll through the charming historic streets. Travel along the Fugan Canal Water Line and return to central Toyama by local tram, discovering the city's deep connection to its waterways and the rich legacy of the Kitamaebune trade that helped shape Toyama's history and prosperity.

Course 1 Itinerary

Alcohol Policy

*Alcoholic beverages will not be served to anyone under the age of 20.
*Parents and guardians are kindly requested to help prevent minors from consuming alcohol.
*For ease of identification, participants under the age of 20 will be asked to wear a designated name card during the event.

2. Takaoka Course

Up to 43 participants (First-come, first-served basis)

Time:	1:30 p.m.–6:15 p.m.
Drop-off Point:	Toyama Station/Toyama International Conference Center

Explore Kanayamachi, the birthplace of Takaoka's metal casting industry, founded in 1609 when skilled craftsmen were invited to establish workshops by the feudal lord Maeda Toshinaga. Stroll along its beautifully preserved stone-paved streets lined with traditional wooden houses, historic workshops, and distinctive lattice-front buildings that evoke the atmosphere of old Japan. Browse artisan studios, discover handcrafted metalware, and enjoy the unique charm of a district where centuries of craftsmanship continue to thrive.

Course 2 Itinerary

3. Gokayama Course

Up to 43 participants (First-come, first-served basis)

Time:	1:30 p.m.–6:10 p.m.
Drop-off Point:	Toyama Station/Toyama International Conference Center

Nestled deep in the mountains, Gokayama is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where people still live in traditional gassho-style farmhouses. Experience Japan's timeless rural landscape while discovering its traditional architecture, rich natural surroundings, and enduring cultural heritage. You will also enjoy a performance of Kokiriko, one of Japan's oldest traditional folk performing arts, offering a unique glimpse into Gokayama's living traditions.

*If you have already created an account for the SCES 2026 conference, you can use the same email address and password to log in.
*Due to capacity limitations, we may not be able to accommodate your preferred excursion. If this occurs, we will contact you and assign you to an alternative course.
*Please note that the tour may be cancelled if the number of participants does not meet the minimum requirement. In such cases, all tour fees paid will be fully refunded.
*Please review the course details before registering by referring to the excursion information below.
*If you have any dietary restrictions or food allergies, please indicate them in the system when you register.

Payment Method

Payments are accepted by credit card only and must be made in Japanese yen via the designated registration system.
The following credit cards are accepted in the registration system.

Notice for Credit Card Payments

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation requests must be submitted to the Secretariat by September 16, 2026 (JST).
Please note that cancellations cannot be accepted after this date.
